“The prospect of starting over at 33 was really daunting but I couldn’t just sit around and do nothing. I needed a creative outlet”. Tammy is a former actor/singer. When her circumstances changed she decided to start a new career. Through her unique perspective, she delves into her own experiences of disability and discrimination to make clothing and pieces that have a story to tell.
Being sustainable is integral to her work, repurposing old textiles into new garments - for example, a competition for AllSaints retailers led to a jacket made from the upholstery leather of a sofa, and, more recently, an exhibition collection of 6 garments, made entirely out of one wedding dress. The idea of the collection was to show how many garments and items can be made from just one item of clothing. According to the UN, “…the fashion industry is widely believed to be the second most polluting industry in the world.” Tammy wants to show how you can have a unique, bespoke piece from beautiful fabric, creating classic silhouettes that last through the seasons with the fabric being the star of the show. Currently working in womenswear, she intends to branch out into menswear and unisex garments eventually so that her garments are inclusive as well as sustainable.
